In Australia, the geospatial competency level of school leavers is debated, and it’s supposed deficiency blamed on the excessive use and over-reliance on technology. Are Millennials and the iGeneration really losing their geospatial capabilities, and is this loss as widespread across society as the technology itself? SSSI members are a professional group of people dedicated to geospatial information creation and manipulation, so the assumption would be that we are geospatially ahead of the curve. We look at what it means to be geospatially literate and why it's important. Audience participation will be encouraged, using smart devices, to respond to questions designed to test geospatial literacy.
