Spatial Information Day 2013 was held on Friday, 16 August 2013 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Spatial Information Day 2013 was again a huge success, with attendance by over 350 delegates from all areas of the spatial sciences. It is thanks to those who participate as speakers at the day that we are able to feature the diverse and interesting presentations that we do, and those of you who have not yet shared your work in a presentation are encouraged to give it a go!
The day began early with a Careers Breakfast hosted by Women in Spatial. This was an inspirational start to the day, with five interesting speakers sharing their career journey’s and goals.
This year the highlights of the morning conference session were the keynote presentations by Stefan Mazur (Operations Lead Consultant at MedSTAR Emergency Medical Retrieval) and Mark Crosweller (Director General at Emergency Management Australia).
Concurrent sessions followed for the rest of the day, covering a range of topics, from Public Works Management and Services Accessibility to Climate Change, Volunteering and Satellite Navigation Technologies.

This year, the final session offered delegates an insight into the world of film and television visual effects through Sam Hodge of Rising Sun Pictures – an Adelaide business who provide world class products and services to some of cinema’s biggest productions including The Pirates of the Caribbean, the Harry Potter movies and The Great Gatsby.
The organising committee would like to thank our sponsors and exhibitors for 2013; without their support the conference couldn't happen. If you are looking for services or technology, please follow up with a SID 2013 sponsor!
The South Australian Spatial Excellence Awards annual gala dinner was attended by 150 guests, who enjoyed fine food and entertainment, and a fun night with colleagues and industry friends.
Band JC Jazz kept the mood cool and sophisticated, and the event was MC’d by journalist and radio presenter Mark Aiston.
The event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our people and industry in South Australia and we are very proud of all our winners and nominees. South Australia has a great record of achievement at the APSEA level, and we wish our winners all the best this year.
